fluidflo® Automatic Catalyst Addition Unit
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The fluidflo®
Catalyst Addition is basically a pressure vessel in which the catalyst is weighed, fluidized,
and conveyed.
The unit is mounted on a electronic loadcell and is complete with all valves and controls
necessary to enable the operator to select a batch weight and frequency for the catalyst
addition. From this point on, the unit operates automatically as programmed.
FCC catalyst flows from the catalyst storage by gravity to the inlet of the fluidflo®
unit.
When charged to the preselecte dweight, the filling valves of the vessel will close.
Plant air is then used to bring the vessel up to pressure. This air passes through a
porous membrane into the bed of catalyst, fluidizing the material to a hydraulic-like condition.
It is this state of fluidization which permits the catalyst to be so efficiently handled
at low velocities.
When the required discharge pressure has been reached, (conveying pressure plus back
pressure at the regenerator), the discharge valve opens allowing the material to flow into
the conveying line.
The conveying line is normally a 1½ inch pipe to the regenerator, or to an existing
carrier line.
When the charge of catalyst has been transported, the unit will de-pressurize and recycle
as programmed.
